It was another summer day. I was wandering around the colourless streets under the gloomy sky, watching people hurrying somewhere and I caught myself thinking about Shakespeare. Not that I am a big fan of his, but one poem suddenly popped into my head and played on repeat over and over again just like a broken record.
All the world is stage and all the men and women merely players.
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts…
So I adjusted his words to the modern world. And here is my point. We do play many roles wearing odd masks concealing our real face. Most of us put their dreams and desires in an old box and move it to the farthest corner of mind because of society pressure and worthless opinions. We deprive ourselves of happy and free life. What for? Just to 'fit in'.
Hiding our true personality at the bottom of the ocean of our soul has become usual. And it would take all the strength and bravery to locate that priceless pearl.
You might have heard this fairy tale about the importance of being yourself millions of times. Yet, I just yearn to encourage those who are trapped in the play written by our society. It is about time to forgo collecting piles of masks and finally get rid of them. Be yourself or at least try to.
We were born to make a mark in this world. However, burying our personality is definitely not the key to the door of success and prosperity.
After all isn't life about being crazy, wild and unique? Isn't it about risking and being against the rest of the world if needed? Isn't it about chasing your dreams and doing things you have flair for? And most importantly isn't life supposed to be one huge extravaganza?
I'll leave you and those questions alone, so you could decide whether to keep playing or get freedom and be yourself.
